But who keeps this huge machine ticking? Our population needs tending and caring and respite from the ailments that so eagerly await on the fences of this existence – enter the Doctor – a word that is now generic and almost synonymous with relief and hope.

It is the Doctor in India who is providing hope and keeping smiles on faces with their devotion to the Hippocratic Oath.

I leave my emotional analysis at rest here.

Reality and the future:

• The healthcare sector in India is growing at a faster pace than any other country considered a force to reckon with
• The Indian Healthcare Market is estimated to touch $77 billion by 2013
• Private Healthcare Market is expected to exceed $30 billion this year (2010)
• This sector is expected to grow at the rate of 15% for the next 15 years
• There are circa 700,000 doctors in India – that’s roughly 1 registered doctor for 1700 people (World average is 4.1 per 1000)
• 25000 Medical Graduates pass out from the 229 recognised medical colleges and 106 private institutions, every year

This huge growth can only be made possible by the doctors already in the system and those that are about to embark on a career.

You are seen to be providing a service and your patients need you. But like every other service, the best is possible with unity and strength. This is our effort to bring the fraternity of practising  medics in India, together under one banner with complete bonhomie and a feeling of unity. This will be your space to interact, opine, exchange, update , challenge, argue, share and be a force! A force to reckon with.
